As our 2014 Toy Fair coverage wraps up, we just wanted to recap the news that came from Hasbro this past week about their 6" Marvel Legends line and what we can expect from it in 2014.
So far the year has gotten off to a pretty good start for Legends fans with the release of the first waves of
Amazing Spider-Man 2 and
Captain America: The Winter Soldier figures. The second wave or the
"Alternate" wave of Amazing Spider-Man 2 figures have already started to hit shelves now and the
second wave of Captain America figures should start hitting shelves soon.
Toys R' Us is releasing an exclusive
Marvel Legends All-New X-Men boxset which has also started to hit shelves.
Looking to the future we know up next will be a wave of Marvel Legends figures based on the
Guardians of the Galaxy movie (see press images below). This first wave will include movie versions of the following:
- Gamora
- Peter Quill/Star Lord
- Rocket Raccoon
- Drax the Destroyer
As well as comic versions of:
- Modern Richard Ryder Nova
- Cosmic Armor Iron Man (As most recently seen in the Origin of Tony Stark Marvel Comics storyline)
The
Build-A-Figure for this wave will be a
movie version of Groot. These figures are supposed to hit retail sometime in July 2014.
So that is what we know for sure, but Hasbro also dropped a few clues about what else we might expect for the rest of the year. So lets run those clues down, keeping in mind that nothing is officially confirmed and things can always change as we have seen happen many times before. But it's always fun to speculate, right?
So Hasbro did confirm for us that there will be
at least 3 more Marvel Legends reveals made for 2014 which will happen at this years San Diego Comic Con. I am told it's a good possibility one of those reveals will be a
comic book version of Star-Lord which we saw a
digital concept sculpt revealed for at last years SDCC. My
GUESS is the other two reveals will be comic versions of
Gamora and
Groot, for a second wave of Guardians figures to round out the team in comic book form. Comic versions of
Drax and
Rocket Raccoon have already been released in the Marvel Legends line from Hasbro, so it makes sense. It would also be a reversal of what they did with the Captain America: The Winter Soldier line, which saw all comic versions released in the first wave and movie versions released in the second.
There should also be some more Marvel Legends exclusives announced for the year as well, such as this years San Diego Comic Con exclusive.
For those asking about X-Men: Days of Future Past figures, Hasbro did not say. However since the movie is due out in May and they had absolutely nothing on hand at Toy Fair this year, we can safely assume that nothing big is planned. It's always possible we could see more X-Men exclusives such as with the All-New X-Men set, but for the most part I would not hold my breath. Diamond Select Toys told us they will be doing one 7" Marvel Select figure based on the movie as well as some Minimates, but don't expect a big product roll out for X-Men this year.
So what about all the MIA Marvel Legends figures Hasbro has previously shown us but never released, such as the
Jubilee wave that made an appearance at San Diego Comic Con last year? Well Hasbro is still being pretty mum on those, but they did say they continued to look for ways to try and get those out and into the hands of collectors. Maybe Hasbro will find a buyer at Toy Fair to pick those up as an exclusive, only time will tell.
